Burn baby burn

Day five!  I am very happy with my results so far.   I have jumped ahead in the book to a section that talks about how many calories are burned doing simple daily activities.  For example, if you drink 2 quarts of 50 degree F water it burns 60 calories.   Sucking on 6 flavored ice cubes burns 60 calories.  A 2 minute shower at 77 degrees  burns 100 calories (who says you can’t wash away the pounds?).  Lowering the room temperature 5 degrees burns 100 calories.   My favorite is going without thermal underwear, a sweater, or extra blankets burns 100 calories. (Who need underwear anyway!)   All of these things combined equal 420 calories.

Obviously these are winter month savings.    It got me thinking about other simple things that burn calories. ( I wonder if I sat in a deep freeze for 10 minutes how many calories I would burn?)   So I Go0gled this and here is a partial listing:

  • Carrying boxes for an hour burns 622 calories
  • Heavy house cleaning for an hour burns 400 calories
  • Cooking for an hour burns 222 calories
  • Vigorous play with children for an hour burns 444 calories
  • Sitting at your desk for an hour  burns 156 calories
  • Watching TV for an hour burns 66 calories (less brain activity I supposed than sitting at your desk)
  • Chopping wood and shoveling snow burns 446 calories an hour
  • Pushing a mower, ranking and gardening burns 410 calories an hour

Here is another list I found that address one that most of you are thinking but don’t dare say, “How many do I burn having sex?”  It is only 41 calories for 10 minutes (which means that jerk-off five minutes ago in the shower was only 20 calories, ha!)

  •  Brushing Teeth (2 minutes) – 4 calories
  •  Sleeping (7 hours) – 382 calories

  1. fidgeting is a good way to nickel and dime burn up calories. I get up and down from my desk continually throughout each day. It probably saves me from becoming a blimp
