Cool cats in town
There are lots of things happening in my world. Some of them fun and some of them not so fun. Let’s talk about the fun for a change.
Street Vibrations started today here in Reno. The tag line is metal, music and motorcycles. Basically, we are put under siege by motorcycles. There are new rules to this event. Motorcycle “clubs” are not allowed to wear their colors. Three years ago some drunk rival “club” members had a shootout inside the Sparks Nugget. Not a good thing! This event is not about “clubs”. It is about people who love bikes. Every kind bike and the parts to jazz them up will be here and on sale. Virginia street (our main drag) will be shut down for a street fair with food, music and bikes everywhere.
Street Vibrations Motorcycle Festival is a celebration of music, metal and motorcycles. Street Vibrations offers tours, live entertainment, ride-in shows, stunt shows and more to more than 50,000 biking enthusiasts. This event is so big, it rocks at several locations throughout the region. Major event venues are planned at Reno, historic Virginia City and Chester’s Reno Harley-Davidson Dealership. Rides to what Mark Twain called “the fairest picture the whole Earth affords”, Lake Tahoe – provide unparalleled entertainment. Flirt with Lady Luck during poker walks and runs. It’s HOG heaven! Don’t miss America’s Finest Custom Bike Builder’s Expo to view the latest creations. Check out the Tattoo Expo for body art extraordinaire. Swell with pride in your country at the ceremonial flag raising. Wet your whistle while appreciating the beautiful biker babes dancing on the bar top at the go-go bar on Virginia Street in downtown Reno, and get some nourishment at the Hog Town Bar in the Eldorado Plaza. Listen to loads of local bands at locations throughout the venue. Spend some money with more than 300 vendors and more than 15 factory rigs selling everything motorcycle and more.
Don’t miss meet and greets with Paul Teutul Sr., star of the Discovery Channel’s reality show, “American Chopper” and Danny Koker, star of the History Channel’s reality show, “Counting Cars”.
I personally don’t own a bike but this event does bring a rough crowd to town. It is interesting to me that this always happens on the same weekend as San Francisco’s Folsom Street Fair. I would think some of the same people would want to go to both. Since Street Vibrations is 5 days and Folsom is one, maybe some do.
Clearly, though, the Reno event is focused on heterosexuals. They have a Cat House run after all. I image this to be good business for those fine institutions.
